Uncle Dick

We lost an original this week....the Town of Harrison will never be the same. I knew and loved him as Uncle Dick. He was truly a character and a very funny man. I remember as a kid how he held court in the Casa DeVille with his cronies, making everyone around them laugh. He and his brothers Pete and Tommy had a garage on Sheldrake Street in Mamaroneck, where in addition to actually working on vehicles, they had a stage for their humor and the many neighborhood characters that called the place "home." Uncle Dick kept the family laughing and had "theories" on why one of our uncles lost his hair, and how another could do no wrong because he was the favorite of his sisters. Oh yes, and then their was my beloved Aunt "Bubie" who was married to Uncle Dick - and who was his perfect "foil." They had a wonderful marriage. She was not the greatest cook in the family, but was married to a guy that could outeat everyone and never put on a pound. I loved them both so much. I remember every visit an every phone call I had with Uncle Dick over the years. How he continually put me in convulsions from his stories about our family and his many friends. I know so many by heart and never tired of them. He was definitely an original. I loved being around him and will miss him a lot. I am just so sorry that I did not make one more phone call. I have my memories of a great childhood with all my cousins and siblings - not to mention colorful aunts and uncles. You can't take that away from me, even 3,000 miles away. Right now Uncle Dick is joining the many family and friends that preceeded him. Get ready for some great laughs in heaven. He is watching over us and gathering new material and new stories. I love you Uncle Dick! With love, your nephew Tom
