Obituary for Paula Rego

I never would have thought I would be standing up here in front of family and friends in such a hard situation. Aunt Paula we all sit here wondering Why did God take you. Why did he take you so young? You had so much more life to live. We sit here and say it’s not fair. It’s not. What I want to do is celebrate Paula’s life and the good memories we have of her.
Paula Leone Rego was born on November 13, 1966. She attended Mount Vernon High School and was born in Mount Vernon Hospital. She married her husband Danny in 1995.She lived at 108 summit avenue her entire life. That house was her childhood home with so many memories and loved ones. Many generations grew up in that home and when Aunt Paula took her last breath that’s where she was. The same home That I grew up in, my brother, mother, grandparents and many aunts and Uncles.
Paula was a beloved daughter, wife, sister, godmother, aunt, great aunt and cousin. She loved her music and singing to some of her old favorites. Some of her favorite tv shows to watch were The Young and the Restless, Chopped, and ghost hunters. She was always willing to listen and help in any way possible. Her family was her life. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and was always excited to decorate and celebrate that day. She loved the snow. She loved animals especially her baby ginger which she took over when grandma and grandpa passed. That was her baby and she was so proud to be a fur mom. She was a great cook and always enjoyed cooking for loved ones. The one thing I can say is that she was always willing to lend an ear whenever needed. I spent a lot of time with her in my younger years, and she loved myself and my children as we were her own.To all of us this is still a shock. I feel like her being gone is a dream. Aunt Paula, Uncle Danny loved you more than you would ever know, and I hope you know that. He would go above and beyond and always make sure you were well taken care of. That was your best friend, your better half. We all loved you and appreciated the love that you gave back in return. You were not only my godmother and aunt, but someone who I confided in, and God has taken you away from us at such a young age. Things will never be the same.
Just know Uncle Danny is in good hands. We love him and we all will come together and take care of him with whatever he needs. We are all hurting your loss and wish that we had more time with you. We all know that you are now at peace being with Grandma and Grandpa. They were everything to you. Fly high and protect all your loved ones. I will never forget the last words you told me when I talked to you a few days ago. You told me you loved me as if I was your own child and my children just as much. God has his plans for you and now we all have a new guardian angel watching over us. Thank you for being you! Thank you for showing your love. You will always be in our hearts. Say hello to Grandma and Grandpa. May you eternally RIP auntie.
