Obituary for James Anthony Knox

James Anthony Knox
Lake Carmel, New York - James A. Knox

James Anthony Knox, 84 years of age, a devout Catholic, belonged to the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Faith, founded by Our Lord Jesus Christ. He died a peaceful and holy death in his home on July 24, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. James was born on the Feast day of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, July 16, 1933.

James (Jimmy) was born to Barbara (Brennan) and Richard John Knox in Harlem, New York. He graduated from Rice High School and the NYPD Police Academy. Jimmy worked as a NYPD patrolman in the 32nd precinct in New York City and later at the Surrogates Court of New York where he retired as Chief of the Probate Department.

He is survived by his bride of 59 years, Beverly (Clarke) Knox, his sons, James, Jr. and wife Bernadette, Gregory and wife Margaret, as well as two daughters, Tara and husband John, Kristen and husband Dimitri, and a most cherished sister, Mary Carroll. He is also survived by the pride and joy of his life, 19 grandchildren. James was predeceased by his son Keith, and by his beloved siblings Richard, Joseph, Andrew and Barbara.

Big Jim, as his wife lovingly called him, had a passion for music, reading and landscaping. He also never met a sport he didn't like, whether he was playing, coaching his sons’ teams or cheering from the stands. He loved all things New York and his favorite sports team, the NewYork Yankees, a passion which he imparted to each of his children and grandchildren.

In addition to enjoying retirement with the love of his life, Beverly, Jimmy immersed himself in the lives of his 19 grandchildren, who meant the world to him, and to whom he meant the world. There was never anyone with a bigger heart than Big Jim. He loved his family and friends unconditionally.

For those who knew him, no words can describe his loss.

For those who did not know him, no words can suffice.

“We have loved him during life; let us not
abandon him, until we have conducted him by
our prayers into the house of the Lord.”
St. Ambrose

We will miss him and pray for him, until, please God, we all meet again in Heaven. Until then, may God hold him in the palm of His hand.

May the Angels lead thee into
Paradise.
May the Martyrs receive thee
at thy coming and take thee to
the Holy City.
May the Choirs of the Angels
receive thee and mayest thou have
rest everlasting. Amen.
